Borders at this this time of year often start showing gaps as summer flowers and bedding dies off. Probably more so this year than others after the recent drought conditions.
Look to grasses, late daisies such as Rudbeckia and Echinacea, and Heucheras to plug the gaps and fill the borders with colour and movement again.
Now is also the time to start planting bulbs for Spring colour next year.
