Kentish Ragstone is a hard, grey limestone. It contains glauconite, all cemented together by the transparent mineral calcite.

This ragstone forms an important part of the Hythe Formation, which are beds of rocks laid down over 100 million years ago as sediments in shallow seas. Kentish Ragstone outcrops occur in various places, in particular along the cliffs at Hythe and locally in Maidstone.
