Hawthorn Hedging

Hawthorn hedge plant (Crataegus monogyne) - also known as Quickthorn. This is a deciduous native hedge with thorny branches with green leaves. During spring, Hawthorns display large amounts of creamy white, fragranced flowers, followed by red haws in autumn months. Their thorns make it both ideal for intruders and shelter for wildlife.

Planting conditions:  Any type of soil, dry, normal or damp (not wet), sun or partial shade, exposed inland and coastal.

Best features: Red haws, wildlife friendly and spring flowers

Ideal height: 1m - 5m high

Growth rate: 40 - 60cm per year
